The studio
An artist, a studio, a discipline.
Nicebox is the studio practice of Brisbane artist Sam Butel. Every piece is designed, fabricated and installed by Sam, working from the Vultures Nest studio across art, screen printing, scenic building and immersive installation.
The work sits between sculpture, signage and atmospheric lighting. Materials lean into acrylic, reclaimed timber, brushed aluminium, programmable LED systems and printed graphics, with creative reuse where it makes sense. Briefs begin from a logo, a colour direction, a reference image, or a full creative direction.
Commissions span hospitality venues, cultural spaces, retail and commercial environments, and one-of-one private pieces. Based in Brisbane, working across Brisbane, SE QLD and beyond.
Process
From sketch to site.
A flexible process that scales from a single illuminated panel to a full venue commission. Sam handles design, fabrication and install personally, or works alongside a designer, architect or venue team.
Brief
Site, audience, dimensions, mood. References, brand assets and rough sketches all welcome.
Concept
Material, scale, lighting and structure proposed back. Adjustments before any fabrication begins.
Build and install
In-studio fabrication, then delivered and installed on site with mounting and lighting commissioned.
